Public Thread is about creating space for a resurgence of making things in our community again, and about reconnecting to what matters.
Community + Connection
People + Inclusive economic development
Civic + Opportunity.
What we make, and wear on our body matters.
So Public Thread is putting our values into action. We value paying livable wages and shifting the false premise that only money wins, over people and the planet. Instead, we see the apparel and textile industry having a positive impact on all three.
We aim to be the highest-quality small-batch, cut & sew manufacturer of apparel & accessories in the Midwest. We are built on Michigan’s legacy of manufacturing and making quality products right here in the Mitten State. We believe in a sustainable business model — support people, the planet, and economic development of this industry in West Michigan.
Together we are doing what one cannot do alone. Bringing together people with a diverse set of skills and expertise in the lost art of domestic apparel production. We want to invest in the people of our community, take care of our planet and support our local economy.
For too long we have de-valued the labor it takes to make our clothes and sewn goods. We have gotten used to cheap clothes and fast fashion. While these can be fun in the short term, they are not sustainable long term for the people making the items, or the planet. We want to be part of the national trend to re-shore apparel production. We seek to bring living wage jobs to West Michigan, while also supporting the growing apparel and textile industry here in the Mitten, and across the U.S.
